A RETIREMENT FAREWELL TO WILLIE PIETERSEN - AN ICON IN THE HAIRDRESSING INDUSTRY

Willie, as you embark on this new chapter of your life, we cannot help but feel a mix of emotions—joy for the well-deserved retirement you're stepping into, gratitude for the incredible legacy you've built, and a touch of sadness at bidding farewell to a true icon in the hairdressing industry.

Willie’s journey in the world of hairdressing has been nothing short of remarkable, leaving an indelible mark on many fellow salon owners, qualified hairdressers, EOHCB competitions, and committees he has been a part of. As the proud owner of Hairxotica in Pretoria, he transformed not only strands of hair but also the very essence of the industry itself. His commitment to excellence, innovation, and the highest standards of professionalism has been an inspiration to many.

His leadership roles within the Employers' Organisation for Hairdressing, Cosmetology, and Beauty (EOHCB) speak volumes about his dedication to shaping the future of our organisation and the industry. Serving as the President and Vice President of the EOHCB, Northern Gauteng Divisional Chair, and Vice Chairperson, he steered the ship with wisdom, integrity, and a true passion for the craft and the Organisation. It was his vision that helped the organisation thrive and grow, benefitting countless professionals within the fraternity.

Willie became the first industry representative to serve on the Accounting Authority of the Services SETA, demonstrating not only his expertise in hairdressing but also his commitment to the broader professional landscape and skills development within the Personal Care Sector. His decision to study law and graduate, only to choose the path of a qualified hairdresser, reflects the depth of his love for this art and his relentless pursuit of excellence.

As a wiseman and judge at EOHCB competitions and later as a competition commissioner, Willie not only evaluated hairstyles but also nurtured the talents of budding hairdressers. His keen eye for detail, coupled with his encouraging spirit, has left an indelible impression on countless individuals who have had the privilege of participating in these events.

Beyond your achievements and roles, it's your warmth, kindness, and generosity that will be remembered by all who have crossed paths with you, Willie. Your legacy extends beyond the salon and the boardroom; it permeates the very fabric of the hairdressing community in South Africa and internationally.

Willie, as you bid farewell to the active years of your career at the age of 83, know that you leave behind a community forever changed by your contributions. May your retirement be filled with the joy and relaxation you've earned and may the memories of your impactful career bring a smile to your face.

Wishing you a retirement as rich and vibrant as the hairstyles you've created throughout the years.

With deepest respect and best wishes,

The EOHCB Team
